I have been dyinnng to shoot at the beach again and I was so excited and grateful when this sweet family wanted to do their family session at Alum Creek too!
My goal for this session was to capture the raw, genuine, authentic, and beautiful reality of raising young children. I wanted this family to be able to look at these pictures and see the beautiful story of their current reality through them for years to come. I hoped they would be able to see through pictures how though everything may not always be perfect, and sometimes it’s a little chaotic, there is still beauty in that too. 🙂
Above all, I wanted to put their family connections on display the *way that they are.* For years I used to try to get children to do mostly what *I* wanted at a photoshoot. But I have finally realized that children’s natural curiosity is beautiful and can be used to my advantage. If I let them lead, they will usually lead me to something more beautiful than I could have created myself.
I wanted to get down and try to see the world from the little ones’ perspective instead of trying to mold them into mine. I told everyone to expect to play lots of games and have a lot of fun, and that we would try multiple times throughout the session for a shot of everyone looking at the camera and smiling and if it happened – amazing. If it didn’t, we still did our job.
I am SO glad I approached it like that.
What happened was pure magic, much more beautiful than anything I could have thought of or created. I am obsessed.
It didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful, perfect evening over Alum Creek Beach… the weather felt like summer and everything was so peaceful. I am in love.
I hope you enjoy these photos as much as we do!
New headshots 🙂
